Guess this really needs no comment from me, except I am not sure whether you have to be running an up-to-date version of Window-Eyes to try this new public beta. Here is a press release we are sending out concerning the public beta of Window-Eyes 5.0. To the Editor For Immediate Release (FORT WAYNE, IN) - GW Micro today announced the release of the public beta version of Window-Eyes 5.0, the screen reader software that enables blind computer users to work on a computer with maximum ease. The beta will be available on Monday, November 29th at www.gwmicro.com. The new version fills out its support of Microsoft Word, creating the most thorough screen reader support for the popular word processing program. Window-Eyes 5.0 also offers a complete color dictionary, and a lease-to-own program that allows a user to buy a full copy of Window-Eyes on a monthly payment plan. "This is a major breakthrough," said Dan Weirich, Vice President of Marketing and Engineering. "With this new version, users can access every feature Microsoft Word has to offer. It offers 100% text accuracy, which is a first for any screen reader." Window-Eyes 5.0 also offers new support for tables, columns, and fields. Users can take advantage of the enhanced support by using features like renaming form fields, reading comments, and tracking changes. Other screen readers will often confuse or ignore columns, or require special scripts to rename form fields. The Complete Color Dictionary is also a first in the screen reader industry. Rather than using complex color descriptions, such as "r204, g51, b51," Window-Eyes will now describe a "shade of" a specific color if an exact match cannot be found. GW Micro will also offer a new Lease-to-Own program, another first in the assistive technology industry. A customer will be able to purchase a 30-day evaluation copy of Window-Eyes for $50, and then pay $100 per month for 9 or 11 months for the LTO Plus or LTO Premium plan. After the lease-to-own period, the customer will receive a full-working version of Window-Eyes. "The lease-to-own program is also a screen reader first" said Doug Geoffray, Vice President of Product Development and Support. "People on fixed incomes are now able to afford to buy Window-Eyes, rather than going without as they save up for it." GW Micro is also offering a free upgrade to 5.0 for anyone who buys a new copy of Window-Eyes 4.5 after November 29th. Window-Eyes was the first screen reader of any kind to read stand-alone Adobe PDF documents, Macromedia Flash content, as well as support PeopleSoft applications and Citrix MetaFrame XP. ** To leave the list, send a message to:- ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
