Our area had the first part of the switch-over last Wednesday with the
second part to follow on 17 August. We received a letter telling us we were
eligible for the Goodmans Freeview box only on Saturday. It would cost £40,
so I imagine it must be a new modification to the scheme as it was listed as
being available in the initial documentation we received about the scheme
but at a higher price. This would also entitle you to a year's support if
you needed it.

I've just been talking to someone who knows their *rse from their elbow on
0800 40 85 900, and got the final word.
For blind people who are eligible for the contribution, they will get the
Goodmans smart talk box as part of the £40 contribution. Those who are on
means tested benefits will get it for free.
This is a very new, regional change. I am getting a refund because our
region has not changed over yet. If your region has not yet changed over,
or has changed over in the last 30 days, you are eligible for the Goodmans
or a refund on it. However, if your region has changed over more than 30
days ago, you are not eligible for it.
The finance office at the digital switch over were only told today, so it
hasn't quite filtered through to all departments.
