Marie - I don't seem to get prompted to connect the scanner, when installing
it's software; the software for the Epsom 3170 installs without the scanner
being connected, then when I connect it, the 'found new hardware' wizard

when you do, remember to only plug in the scanner and connect it to the pc
when prompted, not before, you probably know this, but I've been caught by
this quirk more than once.
Hope this helps a little.
