I am a little late on this thread but hopefully this will be useful.
If you wish to find out your I/P on the Internet your public address
then you can use a variety of sites just by typeing something like "what
is my ip address" into Google. Here is one site and will tell you just
that.
www.whatismyipaddress.com
This site gives you your publically routable I/P address.
If you are after the I/P address of your PC then this may not
necessarily be the same if you have a router. You can still find out
this information even without logging into your router (although it is
an extremely good idea toknow how to reach it). A good one to try is
192.168.0.1, the first two blocks of numbers tell you this a private I/P
address and not publically routable, many routers respond in that range
if not that very address. Many of the better routers have this
information printed on the back of them.
These instructions are universal but for the interest of JAWS users and
others with screen readers if you can get into the system tray a similar
a right mouse click then you can activate "status" in menus to get to
the connection properties:
1 Open Start men and then "control panel".
2 Choose "Network connections" and then press enter.
3 Press L until you reach "local connection" and press ENTER on
it.
4 Assuming the connection is already open this will open its
status window.
5 Press control+tab to reach the "support" tab.
6 The information necessary including the I/P address is included
here.
JAWS users can press insert+B or route their JAWS cursor to the nearest
button and press up arrow to read the I/P address.
