Hi Damon, Here's your answer. George. ________________________________ From: sarah.home@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:sarah.home@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: 25 January 2005 09:57 To: George Bell Subject: RE: [access-uk] Re: firm ware. Hi George, Yes, I can answer it, it's my project! Please can you post this message (I don't have access to this list). Thanks, Sarah Hi Damon, NLB's DAISY project - the security that has been built in is actually tied to the disk, so the access key is burnt onto the CD rather than sitting on your PC, so it should (and will) work on other DAISY players. AS this is a pilot project we wanted to protect the book, so people couldn't extract the text or play the audio in anything other than a DAISY player (the audio will play but not in order!) but didn't want to have to set up authorisation keys that our testers would have to activate. Hi Sarah, Can you answer the following? Or can anyone else there? George. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 25 January 2005 09:38 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: firm ware. Andrew ... Important question that you or others might be able to answer. I'm thinking here about the NLB synthetic voice book pilot that they're running. When you put the disk in, a spoken message tells you that it's searching for an authorisation key. Would this key be different if you installed the US version firmware? Does it search for the same authorisation key no matter where you are on the planet? Or is this more tied to the country you're in for copyright reasons? Thanks BooksBeforeWeDie.com ...Damon -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Hodgson [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew Hodgson Sent: 25 January 2005 08:56 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [access-uk] firm ware. Hi Billy, If you have one of the newer players, then the update is applicable to you. These are the players with buttons and not knobs to choose speed, volume etc. If you have the older player with knobs, do not even think of using this update: http://www.visuaide.com/update/victorupdateclas102.en.html If you have the older player, it is on firmware 2.2.4, which most people have as its a year or two old now. It can be obtained from: http://www.visuaide.com/update/victorupdateclas100.en.html There is a new version of the firmware which will be coming out soon for the older player. Note as I said on the daisy-users list, its only available in American prompts currently since the UK prompts have not been updated to reflect the changes.
