Hi Kevin,

Apart from your Freecom hard drive being very noisy, did you have any other problems with it?. Only nova tech, were I bought my tower from, have got two Freecom Classic SL Hard Drive, one is 320GB for £88.11 and the other one is, 400GB for £113.96.
All the best
Petrina,

Hi Petrina.

The website provided by Clive here is easily accessible and it's a good service, I've used them a number of times. Delivery charges could be a little cheaper so watch out for that if you decide to buy. I was very interested when I read about the Maxtor external hard drives, particularly the 1 Terrabyte version. However, I saw some very damning reviews on the 300GB OneTouch models many complaining about the hard drive locking up and losing data so I did go cool on them. I'm currently using a Toshiba 320GB hard drive purchased from PC world. I've actually got 2 of them and they've been very reliable. They've been about the quietest I've heard but I'd still like to get something even quieter. I've previously owned a Freecom hard drive that was extremely noisy and now steer clear of that brand.

The Maxtor OneTouch range are supposed to be "whisper quiet" so I'd be interested if you decide to go for one of them to get your views.

Regards.

Kevin

Hello Petrina,

Do you receive Compute IT? In the August 2006 issue, in the article How to avoid Data Doomsday, there is mention of the Maxtor One Touch 300GB III priced at £134. The website address is:

www.microwarehouse.co.uk

I haven't looked at this site, so cannot tell you how accessible it is, but it's worth a try. Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Clive Pallett
