Hello
There are two different types of drop down lists in Excel one that is
created using the data validation wizard and one which is created using
the Excel tool kit. The main difference from a visual perspective is the
drop down arrow: the drop down arrow for a data validation list only
appears when that cell becomes active and the ddrop down list created
using the Tool kit is visible at all times.
The Data validation method is highly accessible for screen readers and
is easy to set up whilst the Tool kit version I've found cannot be
accessed via a screen reader. However there is a work around for this
latter method if you have unprotected access to the spreadsheet. The
tool kit method references a list held on the spreadsheet using the
Match formula so it is possible to directly pick from the list in this
area of the spredsheet and then return to the main area.
I'd be happy to assist anyone if needed using and setting up both
methods
Kind Regards
Guy

Hi John.

Not sure I can at the moment as I don't have an example at hand. I have
to
deal with a lot of excel spreadsheets at work and, in general, most drop

downs can be set via the alt + down arrow and then pressing enter when
the
selection has been made. However, there are some I come across where
JAWS
doesn't announce the existence of the drop down box in the cell and
there is
no way of opening it. I don't know enough about creating drop down
lists in
excel to know if there are a number of different ways of creating them
where
one approach results in the accessible drop down and the other in a
non-accessible...

Regards.
