Caroline,
I'm still battling somewhat with mine too as, again, my laptop isn't
updating well when connected to my home network. I did find last night it
did update, but I had checked something else in Eset, though hadn't
specifically gone to "Update", so now I'm really quite baffled too!

I'm still hoping to get to the bottom of this. I've solved it with one of
our laptops by altering one of the settings in the Update, Advanced, Setup,
section, but I can't remember exactly which as they're now all set slightly
differently and it solved it more by good luck than good management! I
think it may have been the Connect to Lan as System Account, but can't
really be sure.
I'll come back if I manage to solve the second laptop and, if so, I'll do my
best to find out why the difference. Maybe I'll get round to calling Eset
soon, but of course they don't know all the intricasies of my network and
nor do I, so it may be trial and error all round anyway!

Happy New Year to everyone on the list and thank you to those who have
assisted me with various problems during 2008.
Following the problem I was having a few days ago with ESET Smart
Security not updating automatically on my Vista laptop while it has no
problems doing so on my XP desktop machine, I was interested to find out
the
following.
I have been using my laptop while away over Christmas but have had to
connect to the outside world using bluetooth via my N73 mobile to
T-Mobile as no internet connection was available otherwise. Surprisingly
enough, when connecting in this manner, ESET updates automatically on the
laptop. I have looked in the Smart Security settings but can find no
explanation as to why it should be able to update on its own when I'm
connected via
bluetooth to T-Mobile, but will not do so when connected wirelessly to my
home
network using Plusnet.
Can anyone shed any light on this? There must be a setting
somewhere, but I haven't been able to track it down.
Thanks,
Caroline.
