Happy New Year to everyone on the list and thank you to those who have assisted me with various problems during 2008.

Following the problem I was having a few days ago with ESET Smart Security not updating automatically on my Vista laptop while it has no problems doing so on my XP desktop machine, I was interested to find out the following.

I have been using my laptop while away over Christmas but have had to connect to the outside world using bluetooth via my N73 mobile to T-Mobile as no internet connection was available otherwise. Surprisingly enough, when connecting in this manner, ESET updates automatically on the laptop. I have looked in the Smart Security settings but can find no explanation as to why it should be able to update on its own when I'm connected via bluetooth to T-Mobile, but will not do so when connected wirelessly to my home network using Plusnet.

Can anyone shed any light on this? There must be a setting somewhere, but I haven't been able to track it down.

Thanks,

Caroline.
