So would there be any advantage to installing the latest one do you
think? According to what I'm making of dxdiag, I'm on 8.1.

Hi Mark,

you'll find that the current version of DirectX is definitely v9 and
that's the full version too.  not one part is more updated than others
to my reckoning.  it's all v9.
