I've just rang this number for advice on free help and equipment for the digital switch over. I wanted to share this information in case anyone else on this list lives in Northern Ireland. We don't switch over until 2012 and the group who provide the free service don't get the list of qualifying individuals from the Department of Work and Pensions until 8 months before their region is due to switch over. So anyone living in Northern Ireland can't apply until that information is released. Depending on the date of the switch over in 2012, applications can only be made 8 months or less before that date. However, if you ring now they will put you on their database to be sent an application pack when the time comes to accept applications. Call: 0800 408 5900 They are very helpful, and will give you a date when an engineer will call, they also offer a 12 month customer support service for free too. I think you can read more if you wish to, by finding appropriate links on the Freeview website, or by following links to the digital change over from the BBC website. And did you get it simply because of being blind or did you have to meet any other criteria. I stand corrected on this one! There is currently a add on BBC about how people who are elderly, blind etc can get assistance with the digital switch over. Someone told me they believe you get digital equipment provided free. Whereas I think you just get your own equipment installed free. Anyone know which is right?
