Hi Derek

I think it depends what you want your machine to do, how much you have to spend, and where you are going to put it once you buy it. There are pros and cons with desktops and laptops. The advantages of having a desktop are that they are usually cheaper, components are easier and cheaper to change or modify if necessary, and tend to be more powerful. But there are some really good laptops on the market nowadays, and prices have come down to what they were. You have the portability advantage, and the ability to save your work if the mains goes down, and they are more compact to fit in a small working environment. I'm lucky to have one of each, and use them both for different purposes. My advice is to consider what you want it for, how much you are prepared to spend, and how much room you have.

Just my thoughts.

Jackie

Hi Dave
I note you say

"I do just this, and it's much more convenient than a desktop PC,"

I wonder what the majority of list members are using desk PC or laptop.

Few months ago Blazie were telling me I should go for a desk PC
(I was replacing old laptop) I was not happy with that advice as I am
used to having a laptop for past 8 years.
Blazie where saying a desk PC more powerful and is better etc.
But I was saying if a laptop meets my needs that's all that matters.
Cut long story short they refused to take an order for training with my
new scanner. So the County Council then asked Sight & Sound if they
will assist me for training etc and yes they are doing.
It seems Sight & Sound seem more focused on what the customer wants,
so they seem to have the right attitude.

Regards, Derek
