[access-uk] Re: Del Software

Where is it and do you get a trial version? If so, what are the limitations on the trial?

Hi Carol.

OK, get Auslogics BoostSpeed and use the startup manager which will
give you more information about all your startup processes. Whilst
your at it, you can run a one button checkup to optimize your systems
speed and performance. I use this program all the time and it is like
a technicians toolbox. One click fix it all solutions never work.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Not showing there ... but definitely running. I looked under
services and there's nothing that starts with DELL and only one
thing that doesn't that I haven't a clue about ...

Hi Carol.

You'll need to launch msconfig by typing the above in to the run
dialog box. Under startup you'll have a list of programs loading at
startup, find it in there.

What's the best way to disable that thing then, Tris. I get sick
of it crashing ...

It's the only problem I really have with my DELL, apart from the
fact that I still haven't got to the bottom of why the Eset Smart
Security doesn't update automatically, as is the case with the
other two computers in the house.

I disabled a Dell Support Centre from starting on a Dell machine
yesterday without incident if that is of any help. I agree with
George and Steve though that a certain degree of circumspection
should be applied to something that decribes itself as a "Driver
Reset Tool".

Like others I can only sympathise with the dilemma that all this
extra stuff places the user in. With a Sony machine of mine I
took a far more extreme (and a little costly) position of
removing the Windows it came with and getting a OEM of the same. However you do not escape scott free because you then find some
things don't work and that special DVD viewing software or
whatever licensed specifically to the laptop is not available for
download but only through the recovery CD. However in my case
once the essential drivers were reinstalled the equation seemed
to balance in favour of the new windows and lighter install.

Dell in the USA had an option where you could pay a little more
and get a PC without the bloatware. I haven't brought anything
from Dell recently, perhaps they don't do that here.

Regards.
