No it isn't a pain, I should have done it, but I thought it would never happen
to me, it did.

  Hi,

I know it might seem like closing the door after the horse has bolted but...

As a tip the backup strategy I use for media backup is...

  1. Have a master copy on an external USB drive.

  2. Have a backup of this on another USB drive who's changes gets backed up
once a month.

  3. Have a third drive that gets backed up when i can, but this drive is kept
off site. I.E. i keep it over at my mums. if my house where to be damaged by
water/fire my media drive which is something I've put around 10 years of
investment into, would be safe.

I know it's a pain, and it's even more of a pain when something happens for
someone smugly to come across and say, "Of course you had backups"?

I got bit once 10 years ago & lost 90gigs of mp3 albums. Some i'd ripped
some I got from Napstor back in the day. From that point on, with all my
faults the one thing I do is keep backups.

there's loads of products out there to do this and depending on your data
size, it might be just as easy to format the backup drives each time and do a
simple copy/paste.

My drive is 1TB for my media and I use Image For Windows,

  Regards,

  Barry.

There are company who claim do recovery, no fee.

Probably best to start counting your losses.

I damage an external hard drive whilst it was actually transferring data, it
fell on the floor.

I am getting quotes' of hundreds of pounds from data recovery companies.

I can't even bring the hard drive up up on the computer it is so dead.

Any thoughts guys, can today get worse?
