[access-uk] DVD disks help

Hi,
I'm wanting to back up all sorts of files from my computer and thinking to
do it onto DVD. I haven't done this before with DVD and wondering - have
looked online and there seem to be DVD-R discs and DVD+R discs. What's the
difference between these?
Also is it like CDs in that there are writeables and rewriteables with DVDs?
