Hi Amro.

Well, I've only heard the InfoTech interview conducted at Sight Village, and to me, it didn't seem to take particularly long. Of course, it will depend on your mobile coverage and network speed generally, but if you have a wireless network in your home or have access to an open one, recognition should only take a matter of 10 seconds or less. Anyone who has tried the demo, could they tell me whether there is a batch scanning mode for instance for use when scanning multiple pages of a book?

All the best, Ibrahim.

But wouldn't this take a much longer time to process a page in comparison to KNFB Reader?

Cheers,
Amro

Hi Peter.

Well, that needn't be the case. First of all, many networks have generous data packages where so many megabytes or even gigabytes of data can be purchased in a bundle, but secondly, doing it server side offers so many more advantages potentially in the future. For instance, as soon as the OCR engine is improved, the effects will be felt by the user immediately, updates can be pushed directly to the phone, new services can be introduced like human assisted recognition of objects with writing but which are difficult to scan. As of now, Text Scout allows online storage and retrieval of your documents by email or via the web, so you can scan something and then read it later at your leisure from the comfort of your computer. To me anyway, this is more appealing.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Don't like the sound of that much. You have to spend money to get things read. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ibrahim Gucukoglu" <ibrahim_gucukoglu@xxxxxxxx>

Hi Peter.

Its another program, akin to KNFB reader but the main difference is that when you take a picture of text for recognition, the image is sent to a server on the internet through either your 3g or WiFi connection if your phone has one. The server processes the image and then sends the recognized text back to the phone. Not only is this less processor intensive generally, but TextScout will be supporting about three times as many phones as KNFB reader. You can read more about it and download a demo at www.textscout.eu.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I have never heard of TextScout. What exactly is it?

Hi Tony,

Depends on how portable you want it. If you want portable, then you can't beat KNFB or TextScout. Also, if you have a compatible phone for either of
these products, then it will also be cheaper than any of the others.

If on the other hand you don't want to read with your phone, or lining up the camera is an issue, then you should perhaps consider the EyePal range. These are much simpler to use, and no "aiming" of the camera is required.

I hope this helps.

All the best

Steve

Hi all,

I'm liking the new products where we can read instaantaniously!

NowI'm thinking of buying one of those products but of course I'd need to
know a little more.

I probably won't want to rush in but say reflecting over our up coming
holiday time!

Now I'm not looking for a definitive of those recent reading products but I would like to know what you think the quality of those reading back wise are

like?

What gives the best results in reading back?

Talking of The Eyepal, Textscout and the KNF reader.

Only in terms of reading back to us that ticks all the boxes with regard to
what I wrote above.

No worries, will not judge on any particular response but would be good to
hear feedback.

Thanks

Tony
