I think some banks are going down the usb key route, natwest are doing =
the
pin machine thing, which is a pest.

Hi all,

I stated in an earlier email that I was investigating whether or not it =
was
possible to obtain a USB version of the security fob that provides the =
code
to my companies online network when working from home. There is indeed =
a
USB version available and therefore it should be possible for the banks =
to
provide its VIP customers with such a device instead of the standard
security fob. All that should be required then is when to code has to =
be
input, simply plug in the USB security fob and the code is read from it, =
no
vision required, simple. But will the banks have the foresight to =
provide
such a device to its VIP customers.... =3D20 Dave

Hi colin and all:

I am waiting for a call from natwest customer care, and will report back =
=3D3D
on their response. I will ask what provision for vi/blind people is to =
be
provided if the chip machines are inaccesible. I have also spoken to =
=3D3D
the bbc requesting that you and yours and in touch have a look at this =
new
technology. With a month until natwest start sending out these pin pads =
=3D3D
to their online customers, I feel investigation is fairly rgent. I do =
not
dislike the idea of the technology, but accessibility needs to be
considered.

Hi Martin,

The assurety given to you by your bank is complete nonsense. There =
is=3D3D20
nothing in the DDA which defines the compliance of an individual product =
=3D3D
or=3D3D20 service. The DDA deals with the way in which that service is
delivered. =3D3D For=3D3D20 any of the banks to introduce technology =
without
ensureing that you or I =3D3D are

at no disadvantage compared with others for whom a similar reason would =
=3D3D
not=3D3D20 apply is the core of the matter. Has anyone asked what
reasonable=3D3D20 adjustments the banks propose implementing?

I would suggest that this is the most important fact that as yet, =3D3D
appears to

be missing in all the posts I have read. Indeed some useability =
and=3D3D20
accessibility consultation should have been undertaken by the banks with =
=3D3D

minority user groups, and one would have hoped that the RNIB may have =
=3D3D
been=3D3D20 involved at this stage. Alas, after the disaster Royal Mail
encountered =3D3D with

the involvement of the RNIB with the first roll out of PIN pads, there =
=3D3D
is=3D3D20 every chance that the banks shyed away from makeing a similar
mistake.

Best regards

Colin
