[access-uk] Re: CD/DVD drive

Hi Barbara

I agree with you having been there myself with some so-called "free" solutions
but System Restore is part of your operating system and each time a restore
point is created. Certain events set this up but I'm not too sure what. A
system can be restored simply and easily back to that point. I've had to do it
a few times myself to get myself out of some mess my incompetence laded me in.
Give it a try and see what you can make of it.

Firstly Roger, System Restore hasn't worked on the PC for quite a while.
Never been able to fix it and it's not worth paying to have someone do this. I
don't really want to run the software as I'm pretty sure like most free
software it will go so far and then ask me to pay to complete the process. I'm
only assuming it must be the drivers, so not really sure what to do.

  Thanks for your reply.

    Hi Barbara

Not managed to fall into this one, yet! Two thoughts come quickly to mind.
Is it too easy to do a System Restore? Why not run the software you found on
the net to look for any missing drivers. At least you'd then hopefully know
what is missing and be able to narrow the search down for getting a replacement.

Well I have finally sorted most of the problems for the PC I moved
downstairs and hooked up to the telly. Got the correct cables and managed to
download the wireless adapter software from the Internet on my own PC. However,
I still can't get the CD/DVD drive to work. I am not sure when it stopped
working, but I removed a lot of unnecessary software from the PC last weekend
and think I must have removed something I shouldn't have. I've looked under
hardware and the drive is showing up and enabled. When I click on Trouble
Shooting it tells me it can not open the help and support files as something is
missing. I get the same message when I click on Help and Support on the Start
Menu, so guess I did delete something essential by mistake. I've tried
searching on Google for the correct drivers, but the only results I keep
getting are for some software to check your computer to see if all drivers are
up to date.

Can anyone help on this one?

      Barbara
