Hi George

But isn't the R- and R+ divided between Phillips and Sony which means the Phillips machine will only play one of the 2 types just as Ali's NEC burner does now?

Roger

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Hi Ali,

There is certainly plenty of choice of external USB DVD
read-write drives, but I'm at a loss myself to recommend any
specific ones. That said, I'm sure others will chip in
here.

Were I to buy one, personally I'd go for a Philips
LiteScribe, purely and simply because I like the way you can
burn a label direct onto the surface of the special
LiteScribe CDs and DVDs which looks really cool.

Of course they do also read and write normal media as well.

George.

Hi Ali,

I can only find an "ND" 1100A listed and looking at the
following, it
suggests that it will only write to +R and +RW DVDs.

Do you know the actual make and model of each drive?

We can then hopefully look up the manufactuer's web site and
determine what
media suits which.

Hi Ali,

It's still just possible that the two machines require
slightly different
media, as I have discovered to my own cost here at the
office. I need +R at
home and -R on a system at the office. It's a real pain,
especially when I
have to get 2-3 Gigs on Vista on to an installable DVD.

George.

No,
We can use them on a different machine.

Thank you.

Hi Ali,

Is it possible that the DVD media is at fault? I have a
Philips LiteScribe,
and it rejects most DVD-R DVDs, even Philips own brand, yet
is fine with
DVD+R disks.

George.

Hi,
I have NEC DVD+RW installed on my system. For some reason,
I am not able
to burn large files on DVD disks as data files. It does not
recognise DVDs
at all. I have tried using Nero 5.5, and, Windows xp burner
as well without
any luck.
I am using windows xp second ed with Jaws 7.1, Nero 5.5. I
have checked the
DVD+RW from systems and devise manager and it says it works
fine. Does
anyone know where I can go from here?

Thank you.
