[access-uk] Re: Bt total broadband - was ISP providers

ok, this is from a BT total broadband user.

1. how accessible is the phone you get with the BT broadband talk? I don't
know as I don't use the phone, even though I've got one, I use a combo of
other types corded and cordless phones.
2. how easy is BT broadband talk to set up? quite easy, the setup for the
router is quite simple, or is in my case. plug phone jack into provided
socket on router, plug in ads cable and cable to telephone socket and power
cable. the problem is finding out which sockets are which. I did this by
getting a BT employee on the end of the phone to describe the sockets left
to right for me and orientating myself that way.
the setup of BT broadband talk is done via a web based system with a new
number and a password which is sent to you on signup which you can change,
the password that is. you go into the account settings with your password
and phone number then set up your caller diverts, answer phone etc.

upgrade your router from the router's access page, which should be installed
with the software to run the router, or can be got from technical support.

technical support is based in India for the most part, and while not wanting
to be xenophobic, some people might not like this aspect of the technical
support, as language issues, plus a rather scripted approach to your problem
could be encountered. I often call them after having trouble shot with the
help files etc, and they seem to treat me like I have no brain, even though
I've told them I've used their help system and I have an issue that is not
resolved.

over all though, the service is good, though please note that due to the
vagaries of ADSL you might not get the full eight mb download speed. here I
can only get one mb max. Also, braodband technical support is provided via
an 0870 number. the 0800 number you spoke to was probably a sales number.

hth.

Subject: [access-uk] Bt total broadband - was ISP providers

Hi me again!

Ok think I'm closing in on my search for a new ISP provider! I have decided
not to carry on with Tiscali as I've had real trouble with them over the
past few days trying to speak to someone and getting some straight answers
from them, the worst of which being this morning when I waited a good 10
mins to get through and just as I was being put t through got cut off, I
then retried and got through but was told "due to a systems failure I would
have to ring back tomorrow"...I was not happy!

so of the others I have looked at I am still thinking of the new o2 service
or the Bt total broadband top range option...of all the people I've tired to
speak to today Bt were the most helpful and it was an 0800 number!

so here's the question, what's people's experiences of using Bt broadband
and receiving customer support from them, in particular does anyone out
there use the Broadband talk option and if so how good is it and how
accessible is the phone you get?

I know I know there will be no doubt those of you who love Bt and those of
you who will have thrown a fit at the mere mention of them but would be good
to hear your recommendations positive or negative!

thanks as ever,

Phil
