Hi Steve and list
I have to disagree with you Steve, I'm sure that I could find many =
sighted people who read and yet cannot spell. After my studies on how =
we learn language and memorise things I'd argue that spelling is down to =
our individual memory ability. Which varies from person to person from =
area to area. Some people can remember every face they see while others =
need contact with the same face several times before the memory is =
accessible thus retrievable. Face recognition is a pattern recognition =
as is spelling.
I cannot believe some of the pompous arguments on this subject. Because =
we can't see, we generally have difficulty in communicating and reading =
communications. So when we have a medium where we can communicate let's =
celebrate and exploit it to our advantage and not fight. The spoken =
word and the written word will always change and develop. Why do we =
allow software vendors dictate what contractions and abbreviations are =
acceptable?
Individuals should be allowed to use whatever contractions and =
abbreviations as they wish. Governed by the audience because the =
communication sender has the desire to convey a message the sender has =
to put it in a form that will meet that end. While allowing the sender =
to express their individual style and personality.
Treasure and use this gift.

Hi Angle,
I would have to disagree here. I know some blind people who are =
excellent
Braille readers, but very poor spellers. Take the word Knowledge as an
example. Learning Grade 2 Braille earlier discourages blind people to =
learn
how to spell such words in my view, although I think Knowledge must be =
the
hardest contracted word that I know of.
All the best

This isn't true. Most good spellers read a lot which is what makes them =
good spellers. Also, I think, they care how words are spelled. When =
one is
in doubt as to the spelling of a word, he usually pictures how the word =
is=20
spelled in his mind as he has seen it written. We Braille readers =
picture=20
the words written in their contracted form. As we know what those=20
contractions mean we spell the words correctly.
