hi, the problem with such technology compared to a good old braille book is 
the cost of that technology prohibits the majority of folks from owning it!

as a reasonably good braille reader, I think grade 2 is essential and I
think that most decent braille readers would agree with that, though it is
true to say that contractions can affect people's knowledge of spelling.
The same kind of debates also happen around capitals in Braille.

while it is possible that Braille could die because of a lack of teaching of
it, I think the future of Braille is in reading it with a Braille display or
Braille note taker.  I have read numerous books with the Braillenote which
has 32 cells.  I have found reading braille easy to read in this form.  If
you have a braille display, then the issue of bulk is clearly not as
important as it is in hard copy.

I was taught to read Grade 2 Braille and like it, but if I had to choose
between the death of braille and using say 1 grade of uncontracted braille I
would certainly go for that.

Personally, I do not really like grade2 Braille as most of it is in
contraction form which I feel doesn't help individuals to grasp basic
skills, Spelling, etc.
