Hi Andy, not Steve, but if the modem wasn't installed it would only go as far as "opening port..." before displaying an error message. Hope that helps.

Steve- Just a follow up to my below message: Do you think the connection
process would get as far as the screen that says:

Connecting to T-Mobile.
Opening port...
Registering your computer on the network.

if the modem driver wasn't installed?

Thanks -

Andy

| Hi Steve -
|
| This made me sit up! You see, this 'found new hardware wizard' that keeps
| wanting a driver, and when unable to find it, directs me to the Nokia
| website, telling me to download the Nokia phone driver, but when I have
done
| a search for N91 software, the screen that comes up tells me that PCSuite
| has all the necessary drivers. It sounds like this isn't the case then
from
| what you say. How do I find that particular driver?
|
| This might just be it, so if you can help me grab it, that'd be great
|
| Thanks -
|

|| Hi Andy,
||
|| One thing occurs to me. Have you downloaded the N91 Modem driver? In
| newer
|| phones, this is built into the phone, but the N91, as I recall, I had to
|| download the modem driver from the Nokia site.
||
|| All the best

||
|| Hi Caroline and all -
||
|| I've tried everything I can now, with this N91 as a modem problem; I've
|| tried with and without wap as a password, I've tried using the connection
|| names of: t-mobilegprs and t-mobileinternet, and every time, I get the
| same
|| message: "the internet connectivity test was unsuccessful." When I click
| the
||
|| diagnostics button, it tells me it couldn't find a problem with my
network
|| connection, so I'm stuck! I had an RNIB volunteer here this morning, and
| he
|| got no further either. And although each time I boot up the laptop the
|| 'found new hardware' wizard wants to find a driver for the phone, we both || decided this was a different issue, otherwise I wouldn't get as far with
| the
||
|| modem set up, as to be able to see that it was actually dialling *99#,
|| opening the port etc.
||
|| I can only assume that what T-Mobile told me about pay as you go
contracts
|| not allowing internet access through a phone modem is actually correct,
| and
|| that those of you managing to do this, have something more than just
PAYG;
|| I've got web and walk connectivity when I access just with the hand set.
| If
|| I am right in this assumption that T-Mobile are not allowing me to
| connect,
|| then I'd have thought it was in their own interests to have sent back a
|| message when the connection fails, along the lines that to access this
|| service, you need to...
||
|| Anyway, unless anybody can come up with any other ideas, that seems to be
| it
||
|| for what I wanted to do.
||
|| Chris, I know you have said all along that O2 let you use your hand set
as
| a
||
|| modem, but others on T-Mobile are saying the same, I'd hate to change
|| providers only to find out I was in the same boat; you see, these
| providers
|| are changing what the allow every other week, so what they give us this
|| week, might not be available to another customer next week, especially in || both cases of O2 and T-Mobile, when there is nothing on the website under
|| Pay As You Go, that says there is web access available when using the
| phone
|| as a modem.
||
|| Are well, time to eat! -

||
||| Andy,
|||
||| Which password are you using when you try to connect? I had the same
||| problem you seem to be experiencing now, but when I tried wap as the
||| password as suggested on a web site, rather than leaving the field
blank,
||| the connection was made.
|||
||| Also, my phone, the N73, didn't show up as a modem, so I just chose the
||| standard bluetooth modem which was offered, which worked fine.
|||
||| Caroline.

||| Subject: [access-uk] Re: Bluetooth on my laptop
|||
|||
||| Hi all -
|||
||| I'm still needing help, although Thanks To Chris I have moved on just a
||| touch!
|||
||| Having uninstalled everything to do with PCSuite and reinstalled it, I
|| have
||| now been able to make a Bluetooth connection between my N91 and PCSuite.
|| So
||| now, when I have Bluetooth turned on, and I boot up the laptop, I no
|| longer
||| get the wizard popping up asking for a driver, hurray! What happens now,
|| is
||| that I get a message on the phone asking me if I want to allow the
| laptop
||| to connect, I press soft key one to accept, and then a few seconds
later,
|| I
||| get the same message again, and when I press soft key one again, it
seems
|| to
||| then be ok.
|||
||| From here, I then tried to use the N91 as a modem, by going to
| 'Networking
||| and Sharing' in 'Control Panel.' When I clicked on make new connection,
|| and
||| then 'dial up' I was shown 2 items, the first said "standard modem over
||| Bluetooth button 6" and the second was the Motorola modem, this I
|| understand
||| to be the built in modem; my N91 wasn't listed. I clicked on the
| "standard
||| over Bluetooth" and entered *99# for the phone number, the T-Mobile user ||| name and connection name, and pressed the connect button; again, I got a
||| message from my phone asking me if I wanted to allow a connection from
| the
||| laptop, and I said yes. I could see with JFW that the laptop said
|| "dialling
||| T-Mobile" and below that on the screen was the message "registering your
||| computer on the network" and eventually a message came up saying that
the
||| attempt had failed. When I clicked on the diagnose button, it told me
||| "Windows did not find any problems with this computer's network
|| connection."
|||
||| One of the things that confuses me, is that when the phone flashes up
| that
||| message asking if I want to allow the connection from the laptop, and I
||| press key one to say yes, the phone then says connecting to laptop, 0
||| percent, and that screen doesn't change!
|||
||| I guess I also need to understand why I couldn't see my N91 as a modem
in
||| that list that had the Motorola and that standard over Bluetooth[I'm
||| uncertain as to what this latter actually means]
|||
||| I also need to know if the above looks as if I've done everything right?
|||
||| I'm bearing in mind that T-Mobile told me that because I'm on PAYG, I
can
||| not use my N91 as a modem, but as John Gallagher who is also on this
| basic
||| contract is able too, and my experience when talking to network
providers
|| is
||| that they don't always know what they are talking about, I'm still
| hopeful
||| that I can get this to work!
|||
||| Thanks for any further help -
|||

|||
|||| Ok Andy. In Programmes and Features, remove everything that is to do
| with
|||| PCSuite, such as Nokia Connectivity Cable Drivers, Nokia PCSuite, and
PC
|||| Connectivity Solutions. Once they've all been removed, restart your PC
|| and
|||| reinstall PCSuite. This should take care of the problem I hope! Good
|| luck.
