Hi Deon I've come across this before with it's companion "Sight impaired" for the partially sighted. It's to me laughable as it's the epitome of political correctness. It's the latest attempt by the woolly minded to say something without saying it in case it gives offence. I find it far more offensive that the subject is skirted round rather than faced. I'm blind. I'm deaf. I make no bones about it and accept those labels. Severely sight impaired is meaningless as it gives no indication of degree of loss. Blind says it and we all know what it means. Roger Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once. ----- Original Message ----- From: <deonv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, May 18, 2007 12:12 PM Subject: [access-uk] Blind or Severely sight impaired? > Hi all > > Apologies is this is slightly off topic. > > I am reviewing a consultation document on developing a strategy for > the provision of services to those who suffer with a sensory > impairment and came across the following statement > > "It is acknowledged that the language is changing and the term > "blind" is to be changed into "severely sight impaired". > > Is this news to me alone? > > I am a professional, blind and not in the least bit concerned to be > known as such. > > Your opinions please. > > If such a change is proposed, by whom? > > Best regards > > Deon van Wyk - M.C.S.P. > > > ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- > ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] > ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: > ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > ** and in the Subject line type > ** unsubscribe > ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the > ** immediately-following link:- > ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] > ** or send a message, to > ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq > > ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
