There's actually a prototype teleporter in Switzerland, admittedly it can
only teleport clusters of cells but everything's got to start somewhere.
wormholes are a probability, rather than a posibility, if only they could
find the energy to open one up, ever heard of zero point energy? another
thing of the sci fi movies but scientists are starting to think it actually
exists, as for time travel, they've already sent the contents of a test tube
back in time, a mili-second admittedly, again though, you got to start
somewhere.
nASA want to terraform Mars at some point, aparently it'd turn the red
planet purple!!.
Ray guns, the US government are working on them.
Nano probes, they're working on using them to knock out dormant chickenpox
cells that remain in the body, it'll avoid the patient developing shingles,
amongst many other things.
Australia in forty five minutes, they're working on it.
As for a bionic eye that has a slo-mo etc, why not, robocop can do it so why
can't we?
I hope I'm not coming across as short or anything as I don't mean to, just
trying to point out that many things are possible, they might happen, they
mihgtn't, I know for a fact though that at some point I'll have sight that's
way better than what I have now. Thanks to technology.

Hi Trace
It is true that a lot of things that were once science fiction are
actually made real. The thing that I was getting at was that, in one
article I read, they said that it was theoretically possible to have slow
motion and replay. It is also theoretically possible to travel through
time in a wormhole, but it will probably never happen, and possible to
have a Star Trek like transporter, but that isn't going to happen in our
lifetimes. Theoretical, as Gordon implied, seems to be less about
practical possibilities and more about a hook to generate interest for
sponsorship.

Barry

Yeah, but, the thing with science fiction is that it has this nasty habit
of coming true.

The thing is, I remember reading about this bionic eye when I first went
blind, and they don't seem to have progressed much in the last dozen
years. About the only change is that, in theory, they could make the
chip operate like a video camera, with slow motion and replay. Ok, this
cyborg stuff sounds great, but it also sounds like science fiction.
Still, this is a great hook line for investors.

Don't know how you are going to get your tall equine friend off your
precarious perch but I bet it would make the lead in one of the
tabloids at this time of year!
These miracle sight restoring tales happen on a regular basis and are
more about attracting research funding than actually achieving a
practical outcome.
Cheers!

Personally, I don't fancy this. I'm totally blind and the things I
miss are things of beauty and driving, neither of which would be
enabled by these bionic eyes. After being fully sighted for 28 years
then totally blind for 12, I think that some sight would just be
frustrating. As it is now, I just forget about sight and get on with
life.
I would be more interested in the stem cell technology that is being
developed in the Far East. Scientists have successfully repaired
damaged retinas and optical nerves in mice using stem cells. The
advantage over the bionic eyes are that this has the potential to
repair the damage and the body isn't going to try to reject the
foreign body.
Now, how do I get this high horse down off this soap box?
