Hi Paul

I'm not a cricket person, so finding the tennis would make me a very happy
bunny as Five Live's coverage on the whole of other tournaments apart from
Wimbledon is feeble to say the least.

Hi Jackie,

I have only used live streaming for cricket on the BBC site. Since there are 20
streams presently, and with the exception of a knock-out first round
tournament, where minor counties are included, the 20 are twice the amount
needed for cricket streams.

I would be surprised if other sports did not receive similar coverage from time
to time. I had a little search on the BBC site, but if there is a page, simply
listing all the Events being streamed at that point in time, I failed to find
it. Perhhaps the thought that anyone would wish to surf their Events Streams is
just too peculiar for them to contemplate.

On the other hand, it is such a massive site, I could have easily missed the
needle in the haystack. There could even be a calendar for the week or further,
so we do not have to take pot-luck as to when to switch on and search.

If such a page exists, and someone on this list finds it, please circulate it's
address.

Paul Benson.

Hi Paul

Thank you for posting this info. I will have a look on the site now I know you
have to add it yourself. Adding and removing stations is easy. I have a
username and password set up with Luke so I can do this myself. If any streams
don't work, or I want something added that isn't there, Luke is really
obliging. Personally, I think it is a great service and worth the subscription
of £25 per year for its maintenance.

Tell me though, does this extra menu cover all sporting events broadcast by the
BBC, or does it relate only to cricket?
Kind Regards,

Hi Jackie,

Apologies, I have just re-read my email, and did not express myself precisely.
The

BBC Events Streams (Sports)

Is not part of the standard issue radio lists, it is however available as an
extra menu, which can be added upon request to your radio stations menu, as are
so many, many more.

So, phone on Monday and Luke will add it to your list in a few seconds. Of
course, it might be possible to do so on the web site yourself, providing you
are set up to do so. I have looked at the site a few times, but have not yet
tried to add anything myself, usual fear of fouling it up totally.

The idea came about when I had asked for the recent Roses cricket match to be
placed on my stream, and when the match was over, to have that stream removed.
I asked if all 20 could be placed under one selection in the menu, so I did not
have to continually take up his time by adding and removing a single stream as
the days go by. Luke said he would think of the best way to do it, and he has.

Paul Benson.

Hi Paul

Great idea if I could find it? I have no menu you describe within the Radio
Stations section on my unit, so do you need to have it added?

Intrigued.

Subject: [access-uk] BBC Sporting Events Streaming On Sonata, Presently Cricket

Hello all,

The Sonata has added a new feature to the radio listings. It is called:

BBC Events Streaming

and is classified as Sports.

This is the title of the menu, and once selected, gives you the options of all
20 BBC live events coverage.

It is not possible to tell what is on each stream. One has to go through them
all, about 5 seconds per selection, less than 2 minutes in all, to work out
which streams are live. The BBC are continually changing what is streamed on
which stream, so just going through them is the only way. It will of course,
take a short while, to determine if the commentary is that of the event you
want. Once a particular sports event is allocated a stream, that event should
always stay on that stream number until it is concluded, which in the case of
County cricket, is 4 days.

Once the menu is opened up, the male voice will announce the streams one by
one. Upon selecting, say stream 1, there will be 3 responses.

1. The Sonata will beep about twice, and if the stream is live, start streaming.

2. You will hear a recorded message from the BBC. This means the stream is
open, but the sporting event is suspended for some reason, in the case of
cricket, rain or bad light. Commentary may start again later in the day.

3. If the stream is closed, the beeps will continue. After about 5 beeps, just
move along the menu to the next station and select O.K..

At presently, all streams are for County cricket. I do not think the Test
matches are included, I think that is broadcast on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra,
so no need to appear here. What will be streamed once the cricket season
closes, and the football begins, will be interesting to observe. Who knows what
the BBC have in mind for the 2012 Olympics, with respect to using these
streams, as a possible supplement to the Radio 5 live broadcasts.

Lastly, after having moved from one stream to another while searching for your
particular broadcast, do not let the beeps run out, you get about 10 beeps to
decide to select, or move along the menu. If you let the beeps run out, it
appears you have to switch off the Sonata and start from the beginning again.
