You need to be really quick when you do this.avast will bring up a confirmation dialog if you really wnt to uninstall and if you do not confirm this within a few seconds, it blocks itself from being uninstalled. This is the case with avast 4.8 at least and is a security measure to prevent malware from uninstalling avast.

There is an uninstall tool for avast that you can get somewhere on the avast homepage.

Hello Barbara,

You can try uninstalling the program completely. In order to do this, open
the main Windows control panel and look for Add/Remove Programs, or Programs
& Features. Open this, and you should be presented with a list of programs
you can uninstall. Right click or press the application key on your
keyboard after selecting Avast in the list and then follow the instructions
which appear on screen.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [access-uk] Avast Uninstalation Problem

I am having trouble uninstalling Avast from a netbook. Although the program
is not in the Start Up menu, it seems to start when the computer starts. I
have turned off protection, but still when I try to remove I get an error
message saying the program may be in use. There doesn't seem to be an
uninstall option within the program itself. Can anyone help?
