Must say I've been using MSE for about a year, and haven't had any problems. It's free, doesn't hog your system resources and, when I've cross-checked with something like MalwareBytes, haven't found any unresolved malware problems. I did use AVG and ZoneAlarm, both of which served me well for a long time, but I'm quite happy with MSE now. Occasionally, I run Superantispyware or Malwarebytes as a belt and braces job.
