Yes, iSync is build in and you will find it under the Applications folder.

Groan Tris, but thanks for the pointer anyway. If push comes to shove, I
could hook up the Apple wireless keyboard and type them in manually. I know
it's cheating, but blimey I've got about 100 contacts to put on it when I
get there!!

Is iSync on the Mac already, or is it a downloadable app? Thanks though,
this is useful to know.

I think there is something in what your chap says as I have tried to hook up
a Nokia 2730 to my iPhone 4 and they don't see each other. Apple have
fairly locked down their Bluetooth to only certain devices that is for sure.

My plan would be given you have a Mac in the house to sync up your N86 using
iSync and get the contacts onto the Mac mini. I think the N86 is supported
directly in Snow Leopard however if it isn't you can get an iSync plugin
from Nokia website.

Once you have synced the contacts into the Mac address book you are away and
going once you have activated your phone with iTunes on said Mac.

Yes Tris, and that's why this has worked out, because I have a SIM only
contract, and haven't had to pay up front.

Incidentally, the Area Manager reckons I'll have to type in all my contacts
manually as I won't be able to import them from my Nokia handset. Is this
right, or couldn't I send them over to the iPhone via Bluetooth? My
contacts are not on the SIM card itself, so perhaps that's what he meant,
I've no idea.

The iPhones when provided by a wireless carrier are not necessarily branded
but may have provider specific applications on them as a convenience. They
are however usually locked which means you would have to pay to unlock it
(going rate about £50) once expiry of minimum contract takes place. The
iPhones you buy instore are notionally locked to the main UK carriers that
support the iPhone. There are such things as factor unlocked phones
available from outlets like Expansys which are usually even more expensive
than going the Apple Store route. For the most part the latter are academic
as in the UK the deals are actually really very good especially if you have
a SIM only contract and prepared to pay the upfront cost of the iPhone.

Well done, Jackie, for your perseverance.

A question springs from your account, which maybe others can answer if you
can't.

If I am offered an IPhone 4 as an upgrade by O2, is the IPhone in any way
branded/changed for O2 which would limit any future use with another phone
provider, should I ever go down that route?

I hope this isn't considered too much of a hypothetical question but, while
I get the point that Nokia phones are branded/unbranded, I'm not sure what
happens with regard to IPhones in this respect. As they're all Apple, I'm
thinking that this is where things differ. No doubt someone will put me
straight! <Smiles>
