Damon,

This is OK, but you need to be able to set your video to the manual channel
you want prior to using the cobolt remote.

for example, if I wanted to record from my NTL cable set top box I need to
first set the video with its normal remote to the AV1 channel. This I
cannot do as I don't know where to find the buttons on the standard remote.
However, if you can do this, then set up a program on the cobolt talking
remote control using the manual option for the channel. When it records it
will not set it to a particular tv channel but use whatever you have
previously set the video to. Unfortunately if you use the talking remote
you cannot select the manual option when cycling through the channels on the
video. this means you cannot select the NTL box on the video and then
decide you want to hit record to capture the program you are watching on
sky1 for instance.

Hope this makes sense.

Blimey! Well that's not what the people at Cobolt told me.

If this is the case then it's a little more useful than I thought ...

So, when using the timer, you get the option to choose what channels and
one of the channel options is manual?

Hi Damon,

Not quite true. You can tell the Cobolt to record manual, in which
case, it won't change the channel, then put your video onto AV, that way
you can record from Freeview, or Sky. It is not ideal, but it works.

All the best

There used to be an accessible sharp video recorder, I had one. I also
heard tell of a talking panasonic one.

The Cobolt talking video remote control only allows you to record off
analogue tv channels 1 to 5. That's all.

There is a remote control with speech that can be used with many video
recorders. Rather than programming the video, you programme the remote
and leave it pointed at the video.

I very much doubt you will ever see an accessible video recorder. Indeed
a number of high street shops have stopped selling them altogether. The
video is as good as history.

DVDs are now the in thing.

On top of that, we are now beginning to see digital
receivers with built in hard drives, which finally allow you
to record one station, while watching another.

As for accessibility - well, that's another story.
