Hi carol, mine is the 256 mb version, you can copy across as many files as you like at a time but obviously the more data you are moving the longer it takes. A typical single music track takes less than a couple of seconds, if you are moving a whole audio book it can be 10 or 15 minutes. The only restriction is the performance speed of the usb connection. The unit is nice and small compared to many, I think the description I read compared it to a pack of chewing gum, I think it's a bit thicker than that myself, more rounded on the edges but it's that kind of fat stick shape rather than flat like a traditional cassette, cd or md walkman. It has a jog lever on one side used for moving backwards and forwards between tracks, including through folder structures in logical order, a volume rocker switch and locking slide switch on another side and a menu / stop start button and long narrow screen along a third side. The single function / menu button can be used to access file management and voice recorder functions although I've not used these myself prefering to do file management through windows explorer when connected to the pc. The connection is via a USB plug on one end of the unit, covered by a plastic slide on cap when out and about. If you don't have a front access usb port on your workstation it comes supplied with a usb extension cable. No drivers required for windows 2k and above. Drivers on the smartdisk website for win 95 and 98. Mine was about £100 back in august or september, lower capacity models are cheaper, 128 meg was about £65 I think. The units full name is smartdisk rover II 256 MB. Use kelkoo or similar to find lowest price, you can buy direct from smartdisk who are £5 to £10 more costly than some other sources, or were when I bought mine. How many MP3's do you copy across at any one time? Any more details would be useful. Thanks. -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of adrian higginbotham Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 3:00 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Accessible MP3 players I use a smartdisk rover II. Not as complex as some thing like an i-pod but doubles as a 256 mb memory stick and mp3 player, it does have a screen but you in almost no way rely on it, I'm sure I don't use it to it's full potential but stop start pause and skip track functions are extremely simple. Stop start is one button, track movement is a 2 way lever, push one way to skip back, the other to move forward. The unit also features a voice recorder which I haven't tried, and an fm radio although that's a bit of a cheat as it's actually a separate unit which plugs inlne between the stick and the headphones and it's not very good. It cost me about £100 in september. File management is a simple as plug in to the usb port or usb extension cable and use windows explorer to copy and paste files around. Unit powered by a single triple a battery. How accessible are the mp3 platers that are coming on the market? I have yet to get my hands on one but they seem to depend for navigation on an LCD screen. Now I use my non accessible mobile by simply remembering the sequence of keystrokes to get what I want. Will this work for me with an iPOD or the Sony player that seems to be competing with it?
