Another plus then would be if you can just copy MP3's to a card, without
having to use a special format, so that you can play them on a Book
Courier. Does this work, Steve, or do you have to observe a special
format?

Bookcourier: Yes I have one of those. Marvelous device but the storage
capacity is limited to the size of the flash card you buy for it and a
maximum of 1Gb I think. Uploading a lot of audio files is very slow.
For text to speech it is great but I am starting to use a lot more audio
files - arely music actually. I need something with a lot more
capacity. I am not too worried about size (although as they say... it
matters...)
I know I am not going to get that degree of accessibility with a
mainstream mp3 player but godd enough may be good enough. An external
mike jack on those that do record would be good too.

Hi Carol,
Although it is not hard disk based, the most accessible non-CD MP3
player in the world, has to be the Book Courier. You also get the added
benefit of being able to read text files, Audible books, TNAUK
newspapers, Braille ready files, and very soon, Daisy books too. And
with flash cards up to 2 and 4GB now, it makes quite a respectable, and
more importantly, accessible, MP3 player.

That sounds interesting because my husband is after something small,
easy to use and that he can listen to music, music and more music.
How many MP3's do you copy across at any one time? Any more details

I use a smartdisk rover II. Not as complex as some thing like an i-pod
but doubles as a 256 mb memory stick and mp3 player, it does have a
screen but you in almost no way rely on it, I'm sure I don't use it to
it's full potential but stop start pause and skip track functions are
extremely simple. Stop start is one button, track movement is a 2 way
lever, push one way to skip back, the other to move forward. The unit
also features a voice recorder which I haven't tried, and an fm radio
although that's a bit of a cheat as it's actually a separate unit which
plugs inlne between the stick and the headphones and it's not very good.
It cost me about £100 in september. File management is a simple as plug
in to the usb port or usb extension cable and use windows explorer to
copy and paste files around. Unit powered by a single triple a battery.

Sorry iof this has been delt with here already and I would be surprised
if it has not.
How accessible are the mp3 platers that are coming on the market? I
have yet to get my hands on one but they seem to depend for navigation
on an LCD screen. Now I use my non accessible mobile by simply
remembering the sequence of keystrokes to get what I want. Will this
work for me with an iPOD or the Sony player that seems to be competing
with it?
Any and all thoughts please!
