Roger is quite correct. Abbyy are the producers of several versions of
FineReader. Note the double 'y' in abbyy. There are several places where you
can download a fifteen day trial version. The latest version of FineReader
Pro is 8 but if you want it primarily for scanning books, shop around for
version 6 or 7. You may get a bargain. I made the mistake of upgrading to 8
and in so far as OCR is concerned, I haven't noticed any improvement. Having
said that though, FineReader has to the best programme in it's price range
and I've tried the others.
