I had the same problem with my Netgem freeview box and recording audio
description.
It turned out that the video/DVD recorder was taking the signal from the TV
arial rather than from the freeview box and it was a case of changing the
input to AV.
This is something you will need to do on the video recorder and will
probably require sighted help.
Of course if your recording directly to the hard drive in the Sky plus box
that shouldn't be the problem.
