Ray:

I went down this route a year + ago and concluded that the solution was in
the use of the English language!

With the 80gb drive which I was using at the time, their were two USB leads.
One appeared to be the power for the drive motor, the other the power for
the heads - I never concluded which was used for transfer of the data.

My current 320gb external drive (used for scanned PDF document backup) uses
an external power supply of 12V DC and a USB cable which presumably is only
for data.

I will tap a hardware specialist friend and report back.

I'll say first I think David is right, re. plugging the Zenstone into any
old USB socket. Or is he?

Then I wonder! I bought a small external hard drive recently with not one,
but two USB leads a split Y lead, , one of which the makers say should go
into a USB data socket, the other into a powered socket. Anyone know what's

the deal here? I've got the thing taking up two USB sockets and it works,
but a bit stumped over this data vs powered socket thing. Anyone know about

this?

Cheers,
Ray.
