Hi Jackie, My N96 8GB does just as yours in terms of announcing names, regardless of whether the +44 is there or not. I'd also be interested in how these infernal things now look up names. In my old Nokia 6300i or whatever it was, if I searched for the letter o for example, I'd get "Office" come up. In the N95 I also seem to get any surname with o as well listed, like Ben Ong, Elaine Olson. Why can't I look up either First or Last name and not both? (Or is that information buried deep in the destructions somewhere?) George. ________________________________ From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jackie Cairns Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2008 7:16 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: 6600 Mobile question Steve, I've asked him to do this, and will let you know what he reports back. I would hate to disagree with you me old mucker, but I don't think the +44 scenario is his problem. I have some contacts in my book without the +44 in them, and their names always come up when I receive a text message, or when they have called me when checking the log. Anyway, another question for you while on the mobile thread, but not specific to the 6600. In my contacts, I have them set to announce first name first. But when I receive a text message, the last name of the sender appears first. Can you change this so that it says first name first when I receive texts? It isn't an important thing, but I just wondered if it could be done as I can't find anything else to change it. Thanks anorak. I'm getting as bad as you with these phones (God forbid) (smiles). This will tell us the number that was displayed according to the operator. This may give us a clue. Of course, don't give me the number, but note how it is sent from the carrier. Well, it hasn't made any difference, apparently, so I guess you're right, unless he has changed something on his phone that isn't displaying the names properly, but I couldn't say. Most of my contacts do have the +44 before their numbers, but there are some that don't. And those that don't still announce their names when their texts arrive. So how come? Just curious really for future reference, and I'll certainly forward your explanation to my bewildered friend. Thanks. Let me explain. My business mobile is 07956334938. OK, now when you add me as a contact, instead of adding me as 07956334938, add me as +447956334938. Firstly, this will always get picked up when you receive a text, because when the number comes through from the mobile carrier, it comes through in that format, and secondly, it means that you can dial that number from anywhere in the world, without altering it. For example, when you go abroad, you can still dial that number. So drop the 0 in your contacts, and add +44 instead. Works every time. And for those that don't have their punctuation switched on, there is a plus symbol before the 44. To get that into your contacts, press star twice. Hope this helps. He has a Nokia 6600, and it seems that although he has added people to his contacts book in the usual way, whenever messages arrive in his inbox from them, TALKS is not telling him their names. He has been into the menu to check that first names are announced in his preferred order, but he is completely baffled as to why the texts he gets do not say the names of his recipients. Frankly I can't work this out either. Does anyone have any ideas please? Is it possible he has his display set incorrectly or something? Jackie
