[3ddesktop-dev] Re: thx (.. and lag)

Hello Eric, thanks for your help.
Here is what i've done following your answer :

1) i've checked sourceforge but the latest version available i can find is 0.2.8 (the one i've installed) (...and im not sure to know what CVS is :)

2) i've googled a bit for "3ddesk fluxbox patch" but the only thing i found is related to older versions of fluxbox (..and i dont have the problem this patch adresses). It havent found anything related to fluxbox for 3ddesk [Left][Right] key binding.

3) With autoacquire set to 0, the periodic "lags" disapear but then if i send a window to another desktop, the previous desktop holding this window is not refresed. It only gets updated when i "visit" the previous desktop again.

1b) I've tried scaling down my res. successively to 1200x1024, 1024x768 and 800x600. The delay went down from a bit more than 1 sec. @1600x1200 to approx. 0.2-3 sec. @800x600 (using texturesize of 512 in all cases). I've also tried to set texturesize to 128 @1600x1200 but i cant realy tell if it improves the delay.
Although the speed @800x600 is almost satisfying (still a bit slow for me ;), i'm used to 1600x1200 now and i will never get back to lower res.
I'm still using 3ddesk with pleasure though :]

Thx again your help and best regards,
Alexandre

alexandre,

1* try the latest version or a cvs build. I think some of that initial delay was mitigated with recent updates in the code.

2* there's a patch floating around to integrate 3ddesktop into fluxbox. I don't know what the status of that is. anyone else know?

3* try "autoacquire 0". the default config is (was) "autoacquire off" but this was not effective. after changing it to '0' i had better luck.

In my experience, 3ddesktop performance does not scale well with higher resolutions; you may also try lowering your desktop resolution.
