I can verify that it is NOT a Twinview problem (other than large
resolution perhaps). When I run my Twinview setup at home in a WWx1024
video mode, 3ddesk works just fine. Here at work where I'm running a
higher resolution, currently 3040x1200, I get the hang.

But i'm not sure about dual-head configuration. Have you active & well
working direct rendering? ( glxinfo | grep -i direct ) Maybe there
will be incomplete support for dual-head, or something like that. But
it's *only* guess.

The only real difference you should see with the lower texturesizes, is
a fuzzier picture when you're zooming out.. When you're zoomed all the
out the way it'd probably look the same still.. Just when you're in
closer things should be fuzzier.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm trying that now. No improvement
setting the texturesize as low as 128 (defaults to 1024 according to the
config file comments).
I notice that the daemon only gets started (at first) when a 3ddesk
command is issued. Does it remember anything about the config if I kill
it and restart? E.g. does it get any of its settings when X starts?
I've changed the texturesize several times and seen absolutely *no
difference* in the behavior. It makes me wonder if the new settings are
getting read at all. I guess I'll find out when I reboot...
