Have you tried changing the texturesize setting (3ddeskd --help)?
If you use a lower number, it will make the zoom out snapshot fuzzier,
but will use less video memory. You could try starting with 256, or even
128, and then moving the number up (it should always be a power of 2
though) until you find the best compromise.
If you see the problem even with a much lower texturesize, then I'd
probably try getting a new/different video card driver if you can.
I hope this helps, but if it doesn't, you've got to remember that I have
no clue really about what I'm talking about ;)..
