I don't know any details about the amd64 repos because they are not
officially part of debian yet.

But now is a bad time to play around with X11 packages in sid. Debian sid is
just in the middle of the XFree -> Xorg transition atm.

I'd wait a bit and give it a try once the transition is over. Btw: Once the
build dependencies are built on all architectures, we will upload 3ddesktop
0.2.9 into debian (which contains a patch for amd64). Pierre (the
co-maintainer of the package) tested the package on his amd64 box and it was
working. This was _before_ the Xorg transition, though.

If you want to give it a try now grab our non-official debian source package
and build it on your own. Or maybe it will even work if you just install the
package described in the next paragraph.

Technical details: XF86VidModeQueryVersion can be found in libxxf86vm.
In debian, this library came with xlibs-static-dev until now. After the Xorg
transition, it will be available in libxxf86vm1/libxxf86vm-dev. That's why
whe have to upload a new package which build-depends on libxxf86vm-dev and
whose binary packages depend on libxxf86vm1. We will do that when
libxxf86vm will be built onall archs.
