Jeff, I think you are on to something here. I have seen this
keyboard focus problem happen in the past intermittently and
it does seem to always be on more powerful machines.
I will look into seeing if 3ddesktop can check if it has focus and
grab it if it doesn't and/or grab the focus periodically.

* On a side note:: There are some interesting new things in the
CVS version of 3ddesktop and I'd be interested to hear feedback
(bug reports) on any of them. The main things being the ability to
specify a background image and transparent desktops (hit 'b' while
activated).
