I would try reducing your texture size. That will make 3ddesktop consume
a lot less memory, and probably run a lot faster. I found that I would
notice performance issues sometimes after an upgrade, and realized that
it's because my display resolution was so much higher each time, and
took a lot more video memory to store the snapshot.
I don't remember what exactly to set things to, but it's fairly well
documented in the example config.
