Regarding problems with 3ddesktop:

beware also of unclutter!

(You know unclutter? The mouse-pointer hiding tool which gives the way free to the view of your desktop if you don't move the mouse for a given time period.. it's cool!)

I'm not sure now if I already had issues with unclutter and 3ddesktop, but I had recently with unclutter and dosbox when running mouse-pointer games in dosbox, like Discworld for example, and unclutter easily gets forgotten as an error source once its in use.
