I'll do my best to help. :) The hang with lament makes me suspect
your drivers/libs configuration.

The strace output is very helpful. I know based on the messages
from -v and from the strace what section of code this is occuring
in. There is a bunch of calls to Xlib routines and then a call
to glxMakeCurrent().
If the strace truly ends where you have it then my guess would be
glXMakeCurrent. the ioctls at the very bottom of the strace output
are to /dev/nvidia0 which is the nvidia kernel driver.
I would recommend updating or reinstalling the nVidia stuff with
the latest from nVidia.
