Hi list-members,
my machine crashed again, so I settled out for new Information on
setting up that NVidia stuff.
Meanwhile, it seems quite stupid that I have replaced all Drivers
with the same, since there seem to be different NVidia drivers for
different purposes (like watching TV etc.), but since I have no TV
cable running out of my computer I dont care.
I found another forum where people share valueable information:
(alas, it is in
german, but maybe you can translate it
with bubblefish)
http://www.linux-community.de/story?commentid=19537#19537
At the page above someone mentions the option to check the
configuration with "3Ddiag". I tried this out and got some messages,
one of them reading like this:
If 3D hardware OpenGL configuration is not stable enough, you
should switch back to 'Mesa Software Rendering'. You can
verify this configuration with the command "3Ddiag --mesasoft".
I thought, well that could be a plan, and tried out:
ansigg@church:~> 3Ddiag --mesasoft
3Ddiag version 0.397
Verifying 'Mesa Software Rendering' configuration:
Using 3Ddiag.mesasoft
************************************************************
Tests for package "mesasoft":
package ...done.
package files ...done.
Tests for correct OpenGL libraries:
Symbolic Links ... failed!
================================================================
'Mesa Software Rendering is not used. To use 'Mesa Software
Rendering the skript
"/usr/X11R6/bin/switch2mesasoft"
must be executed.
================================================================
/etc/sysconfig/3ddiag (SCRIPT_3D=switch2mesasoft) ... failed!
================================================================
'Mesa Software Rendering' is not used. To use 'Mesa Software
Rendering' the entry
SCRIPT_3D="switch2mesasoft"
is required in /etc/sysconfig/3ddiag. Execute /sbin/SuSEconfig
after changing this.
================================================================
Checking GLU/glut runtime configuration:
GLU ... done (package mesaglu)
glut ... done (package mesaglut)
Than I did just like the script told me (that is, i switched the
switch and set the entry), and now looking forward to the next
reboot, if the computer freezes, if acceleration works, and so on.
Please dont feel unconvient if this information is not complete since
I dont know about the results, and the script messages are somehow
pasted slopy between my writings, but i wnt to keep you informed
about the going-on and maybe people have similar problems and can
help themselves, too.
Greetings,
Andreas
