Hi List,
when I knew that it was not 3ddeskd's fault, I had to read
on other sources as well. I discovered the Forum at nvidia's
site, and there people who faced similar problems said to
themselves that it helped to compile the sources on their
own machines and install the resulting binaries.
Desparate as I was already, I grabbed the source from
nvidia and compiled it, that went fine. The resulting
binary file with the name "NVdriver" was now to put in
the right place. This triggered me to search for existing
files with the same name on my system. The surprise was
I found several of them! I moved all of them to another
name and copied the new binary into their folders. One
or two of them had the same size as the fresh compiled
binary, I replaced them too. Since then, I had no crash,
and I hope it is stable now. Here is my current supposition
of what might had happened: maybe, some other program
opened the library, and, depending on which program it was,
it choose another one from the many versions I had in my
system. Depedning on this choice, my 3D-stuff crashed
or worked fine. Just another supposition, who knows..
Now for something other..
when I had read about the "3ddeskd --win"-Option, I tried
it out and was surprised about that interesting, but
undocumented feature.. and there are more of these!!
When you are in "pager-mode", that is, looking at the
3-dimensional view on your desktops, you can use
a couple of keys to modify your view. Here are those
I found out so far:
l toggle blinking / non-blinking mode
r rotate randomly
m toggle modes: blinking / false colors
b push front picture to background
Q same as ESC and return: choose desktop
numeric keys scroll to desktop/viewport #
Remember to have some fun!
Greetings,
Andreas
