[3ddesktop-dev] Re: 3ddesktop packet in debian

Mathias,

cool. this list is low traffic though, please keep your bug reporting comprehensive; if patches then one bug per post with patch included, else please make a "digest" of open bugs and filter out ones that are not within the scope of 3ddesktop to fill. even with a patch, it's a test of patience to see someone with cvs commit access find the time to make changes.

arguably so, a lot of complaints about 3ddesktop are not within its scope of operation. that is something to consider.

I personally think 3ddesktop is doing exactly what was the original idea of it, and any more should just be bug fixes. it's fun to impress your friends with and use (if video memory allows).

Thanks for picking up the action. The best thing to do might be to mantain a seperate debian patchset against recent CVS. Comments, anyone?

Hello

Some time ago, I asked a question on this list and someone told me to apt-get
source 3ddesktop and fix the problem. I had a look at the debian package
and I realized that this debian package was quite old and that the bug I was
reporting had been fixed long time ago. I tried to contact the debian
maintainer several times, to ask for a newer version, but I never
got any answer.

After I realized that I could not expect any reaction from the debian
maintainer, my intention was to make an NMU, but Andreas Barth (a sarge
release assistant) asked me whether I'd like to adopt the package. I did
so together with Pierre Habouzit which is co-maintaining.

I wanted to inform the 3ddekstop developers about that. Related to this
package adoption, I'd like to ask if you would appreciate if I'd forward
bugs
reported via the debian BTS (bug tracking system) to the developer
mailinglist. Of course, I would only do so with bugs wich are related to the
upstream project and not to errors in the debian package, and I think there
may be bugs which could be interesting since they seem to affect many people
(just as bug #283414).
