3ddesktop is in ubuntu universe. v0.2.7 for horay and v0.2.8 for breezy
(at least for !amd64 archs). Unfortunately, ubuntu failed to ship with a
version of 3ddesktop without critical bugs even though it was ready. I'm
referring to the 3ddesktop-will-not-quit-with-nozoom-problem and some
amd64 casting bugs about which you should not care anyway. A bug such as
the one you are describing has not been fixed in the upgrade to 0.2.9
AFAIK. Anyway, if you want to have a current version with ubuntu,
compile it from source or take the 0.2.9 debian source package, fix deps
which may be broken and build a debian package out of that.
Best regards
