Well, shoot. 0.2.1 has multiple issues for me and is completely nonfunctional.
The previous version 0.2.0 went on fine in both source and RPM form.
I'm using Red Hat 7.3 with a NVidia GeForce 3Ti and the Nvidia
hardware-accelerated driver, Gnome 1.4 desktop with four workspaces.
Problem #1: RPM wants libraries that are older than the ones I have installed:
(carl@herbie) # rpm -Uvh 3ddesktop-0.2.1-1.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
libDCOP.so.1 is needed by 3ddesktop-0.2.1-1
libkdecore.so.3 is needed by 3ddesktop-0.2.1-1
libqt.so.2 is needed by 3ddesktop-0.2.1-1
(carl@herbie) # locate libDCOP.so
/usr/lib/libDCOP.so.4
(carl@herbie) # locate libkdecore.so
/usr/lib/libkdecore.so.4
(carl@herbie) # locate libqt.so
/usr/lib/qt-3.0.3/lib/libqt.so.3
[extra stuff snipped]
Problem #2: Trying to avoid the above problem by compiling from source, it
trips up on a GL detection during the configure:
checking GL/gl.h usability... yes
checking GL/gl.h presence... yes
checking for GL/gl.h... yes
checking for XextCreateExtension in -lXext... yes
checking for XF86VidModeSetViewPort in -lXxf86vm... yes
checking for glBegin in -lGL... no
configure: error: libGL is needed to compile 3ddesktop
(carl@herbie) # locate libGL
/usr/lib/libGL.so
Hope these can be resolved fairly easily. I want to try out the new features!
