Sorry, but unless someone can suggest an Imlib2 replacement that is as 
fast at scaling as imlib2 is then its here to stay.

Use the --kde flag to the daemon (3ddeskd) for now or edit 
3ddesktop.conf to include "kde 1" at the top.  

This flag as well as others should probably be allowed to be given 
to the client so that when the client "autostarts" the daemon it
will pass the flags thru.  I'll fix that eventually.

This is probably because it didn't get the --kde flag (or for some
folks the --workspaces flag).  It didn't find all your desktops basically.
I put in some "autodetection" of workspace mode and I might do the same 
for kde.

Sounds like the screen capture is not working.

Maybe:
ls -l /usr/X11R6/lib/libXxf86vm*

I think cube is right - it comes with XFree86.
